Packaging, recycling and waste
Extended producer responsibility
The Producer Responsibility Obligations (Packaging and Packaging Waste) Regulations 2024 require producers to report the packaging they place on the UK market and, above the larger threshold, to pay disposal fees. Obligation depends on turnover and tonnage: broadly, above £1m turnover with 25 tonnes or more brings reporting duties, and above £2m with more than 50 tonnes brings the full obligation.
We record the material, type, class and weight of all packaging we supply from day one, so the report is a query rather than a scramble, and we register with a compliance scheme as soon as we cross a threshold. Our current position is stated in our annual accounts.
Steel chargers are recyclable — properly
A used 8g charger is a small steel canister. Empty, it is recyclable steel and holds real value. It is also, if not fully discharged, a pressurised container that can injure someone at a materials recovery facility or start a fire in a collection vehicle. Discarded canisters are a recognised problem for waste operators.
So:
- Discharge every charger fully before disposal.
- Put them in your commercial dry mixed recycling as scrap steel, never in general waste and never in a bag with anything combustible.
- Bring them back to us instead if you would rather — we take back chargers we supplied, at no charge, on any delivery.
Take-back
Ask your driver for a return crate. We consolidate returned chargers and send them for scrap-steel recovery through a licensed carrier, and we keep the waste transfer notes. This also closes the loop on stock we have supplied, which matters for a controlled product.
Our own packaging
Outer cartons are recycled board and we re-use serviceable ones for Bristol deliveries. We do not use expanded polystyrene or plastic void fill. Pallet wrap is collected back on the van.
Waste carrier registration
We are registered with the Environment Agency as an upper-tier waste carrier for the take-back service. The registration number is available from compliance@misesupply.co.uk.
Batteries and electricals
We do not currently sell electrical equipment or batteries. If we add them we will register under the WEEE and Batteries Regulations and offer take-back on a like-for-like basis.
